About Ian Albright
As a Transpersonal Therapist my orientation to therapy is informed by the understanding that the human mind/brain is dynamic and plastic (able to change, grow, and develop new pathways), that the identities we carry contain multitudes, and that by improving our awareness of and organizing these multitudes we can come to a more intraconnected experience with ourselves and with the world around us. Developing somatic awareness is also a vital aspect of healing in the Transpersonal field. The body holds both subconscious information about our habits, routines, emotional associations, instincts, biological drives, and repressed energy from traumas and memories. By increasing and refining our awareness of bodily energy and sensations, we essentially exhume subconscious material, making it conscious, which allows us to begin to process our traumas.
To help address the challenges that clients face I use a range of modalities, including Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Comprehensive Resource Model, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Gestalt; as well as more traditional approaches like, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
My path into the field of mental health reads like so many others. Through grappling with my own childhood wounds, I came to understand how others struggle with their own issues. I determined that I would use my journey of healing to help others experience healing for themselves. This intention led to an introspective path, exploring aspects of myself through a variety of spiritual, philosophical, scientific, and artistic lenses. In 2009 I discovered Vipassana meditation where I learned the value of developing concentrated inner-awareness. Ultimately, I came to learn how important relationships are to the healing process, and how being regarded with kindness and compassion is primary to activating the healing faculties of the mind and body.
